One way local government tries to convince you to vote for more taxes is to compare themselves to other local governments. Your tax rate is lower than your neighbor’s, they say, check with the Will County Clerk.
But instead of pointing out how they do more with less, they make the same mistakes like Larry Walsh coming on WJOL and saying that they are not a bunch of yes men, HEY they spend the tax money like water and yet they have enough nerve to ask for more and greater amounts, Damn we all know half of what he says is just for political gain and not for the benefit of the residents. The implication hasn’t been “aren’t we residents lucky we have him in office;” it’s been “aren’t you ashamed and sorry we elected him?”
Before they start pleading for money, please anyone answer this question: when is enough enough? Perhaps we need more visionary leadership which we really don‘t have at this current point in time.
The Centerpoint project issue of the new industrial park includes the creation of a network of truck-only, private roads to move freight traffic to Arsenal Road and I-55 but at who’s cost, will it again be at the cost of the tax payers so that cenerpoint properties can conduct business or will it be at the cost of Centerpoint properties– Think back a few months ago when the Joliet taxing bodies were planning to add an additional tax to fuel to pay for ramps that was to be utilized by heavy truck traffic for the Elwood Illinois current intermodial facility.
Thanas said: “We believe (Illinois) 53 can handle the additional traffic,” I guess this Thanas doesn’t have the forethought to know that it means approximately 2 million trucks a year plus the pulling of overweight and leaking cargo containers thru Joliet and surrounding communities, much of what is imported in the cargo containers is hazardous materials, now stop and think about the current credentials of the drivers pulling these loads in our neighborhoods.
Currently our roads are deteriorating from the traffic we already have from the increased trucks on our local streets, our infrastructure is failing, then Just a few days ago we here that the local politicians say they won’t vote them selves a raise.
I bet every one saw right through that line of bullshit and now with the Centerpoint issue happening the credibility of local politicos is not looking to good, Thanas said he’s been told that the state could start construction sometime between 12 and 18 months from now. Area officials have talked about a schedule for completing the interchange in 2011 or 2012.
The official word from the Illinois Department of Transportation is that the interchange is one of a number of projects with no firm completion dates. But it is scheduled to start by 2014, IDOT said. Sounds to me someone doesn’t have their facts strait now who could it be………I know! maybe it is someone that is looking to be re-elected.
So there’s no clear timetable for when that will happen?, Will County Engineer Sheldon Latz said: there’s no clear timetable for when that will happen, Latz said. He worries that the extra traffic from Joliet will hit the road before the interchange is upgraded. And, Arsenal Road itself may not have the capacity to handle the extra truck traffic.
So where does that put the traffic right down our neighborhood streets and who pays the cost we do.
Just Blogging and seeing what we see, If you want to email me feel free to do so at

The intermodal is the least of Joliet’s problems. how about
we not blame everything on the polititions. For 40 years, the Department of Management and Budget was run by a drunk. And the one that replaced him after he retired last November is a guy who saved him from drowning because he was drunk at the bottom of a hot tub while at a seminar in Wisconsin.
The new director has a history of bad management with a high turnover in his departments.
guess who?
Hey, impersonation is the best form of flattery, but if you’re going to lift my ideas for a post, at least be kind enough to rearrange the words so you’re not plagiarizing.
Thanks.

Walsh Running Will County the Chicago Way:
Connected Developer, Political Donor Poised to get south Joliet Intermodal Deal
Joliet, Illinois… Will County Executive Larry Walsh is trying to play a fast one on Will County families.
Today on WJOL’s “Scott Slocum Show”, Walsh expressed some concerns about the proposed intermodal development in south Joliet by Centerpoint Properties. The reality is that Walsh has already signed off on the deal.
It’s classic Chicago-style, pay-to-play politics. A politician like Walsh cuts a backroom deal, while telling the public he is working through some concerns. Those concerns ultimately get quickly worked out, particularly when the interested party is a regular campaign contributor.
Centerpoint Properties participated in a downtown Chicago fundraiser for Larry Walsh at the Chicago Yacht Club less than a month ago. In addition, according to campaign disclosure reports filed with the Illinois State Board of Elections, Walsh has received more than $6,000 in campaign contributions from the combined donations of Centerpoint’s political arm and its CEO, Michael Mullen. The most recent contribution of $1,000 came on June 30, 2008.
Centerpoint’s proposed 3,900-acre intermodal in Joliet would be bigger than the intermodals in Elwood, Crete, and Wilmington combined.
“First of all, regardless of the merits of the project, the deal looks bad because it’s being pushed by a major donor of the County Executive which is why, unlike Mr. Walsh, I have said I would not accept campaign contributions from vendors who do business with Will County,” said challenger Dan Kennison. “Second, Larry Walsh is going to turn Will County into a parking lot if we’re not careful. We have a sizeable amount of truck traffic as it is. We need to be thoughtful as we plan for Will County’s future to accommodate our growth in such a way as to not endanger our quality of life.”
“These are the types of insider deals where the politicians and the connected businesses make out at the expense of the residents. This is what people in Will County are sick and tired of,” added Kennison. “You simply have to be objective when you consider these types of issues on behalf of those that you work for – Will County residents. We have too much at stake to allow clout and pay-to-play politics to determine the future development of our county.”
This is not the first time issues about Walsh’s public ethics have been raised. An April 1, 2008, Associated Press story suggested that Walsh may have been involved in a quid pro quo with Governor Blagojevich whereby Walsh, then a State Senator, would trade his vote on a piece of legislation in exchange for a state job for his legislative secretary.
From the AP Story,
Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s legislative aide told colleagues he might get a favorable vote from a senator if the administration hired the lawmaker’s secretary, according to a document obtained by The Associated Press.
The November 2003 e-mail from Joseph Handley to Blagojevich’s patronage office seeks confirmation that the administration planned to transfer an Agriculture Department employee, Tim Kraft, to the transportation agency — into a position that by law should be filled on merit, not politics.
Taking his place would be Rhonda Wood, Springfield-based secretary to then-Sen. Larry Walsh, who is now Will County executive.
‘If this can be confirmed, it helps me w/Walsh on important vote,’ Handley, then Blagojevich’s legislative liaison, wrote in the e-mail obtained by the AP.

My appologies. I should look before I leap. Please keep up the good work here.
This deal stinks from the beginning! There isn’t even the slightest resemblance of representation here for the people of Joliet or Will County in the whole plan! For some reason we keep re-electing bought and paid for career politicians to office. Larry Walsh the entire Joliet City Council and soon Debbie Halvorson, will be able to sell our city, county and state to the highest bidder! Do something! Get up, get out and vote these criminals out of office, move in new people and new ideas, get the government out of our pockets and under our control! Larry Walsh wants parity with Cook County the highest taxed area in the entire United States! Why? when there is that much money floating around it’s easier to divert it to your cronies. Yes, the Cronies will be here posting about how I misrepresent Larry Walsh’s intentions, but remember they are fighting for their piece of the pie they are the ones with something to loose. What will I loose if he is reelected? A great place to live!

I cannot believe the CenterPoint project that is in the works. Because this company has so much money (every page on their website mentions the capital they have available to make any project happen), Joliet seems willing to rush the approval of annexation and zoning. If Joliet will make hundreds of millions of dollars in tax money, can you imagine how much more capital CenterPoint is going to make? Meanwhile, my subdivision is more than half empty because of the current economy; and at this rate, CenterPoint will be finished before my subdivision is. I’m new to Joliet and have only been in my house for a year. I only heard about this project through a mailing from the city that came around the 4th of July. With the city board voting on July 29, what am I and the other 20 homeowners in my subdivision to do? We will be at the 6pm meeting on Tuesday, July 29, and we really hope that all other Joliet/Will county citizens who are concerned will attend. We need all the support we can get. With CenterPoint being 1/2 mile from our homes and only 20-ish residents over here to stand up for ourselves, we’re feeling a lot like David against Goliath!
I will be at the meeting also, I have a lot to say on this issue and I would also like to ask the people involved in this venture “where the old containers will be placed when they are of no use to these companies like hanjin, yangming, and etc…” I already see these containers being placed around Joliet and Will county, lis this area area of Will County to be some major container dumping ara in the future.
Oh yah this Center point issue is all about $$$$ ( city of Joliet)and big business. If only they could see that good PR and tax breaks are better than lots of bad PR and destorying the last one room school house left in Joliet Township. Check it out before its gone Patterson and Laraway Rd. Need help!
thats true Kathleen Kennedy
Has anyone heard any information on the rumor that Centerpoint may be thinking of a major buyout for all the property within the Cedar Creek subdivision between Sharp rd. and Millsdale and west of 53? People have been telling me they are considering buying out the property but I haven’t come across any solid evidence. Not sure if the 11 million plus default to First Midwest Bank from Pasquinelli Builder is any indication of that or just an effect of the housing bubble burst. Im glad I came across this site. It makes me sick to see what my new family and I bought into. I know I’m not alone in this, as every resident of Cedar Creek is mad as hell about the Centerpoint Project being developed in our backyards but more so the fact that Pasquinelli lied to the potential buyer by saying they were planing on building a new school in that zone! Not to mention the unfinished park in the subdivision that people paid a premium to live by that will never be built. I smell a class action in the air.
CCR,
You can’t get blood from a Turnip! If Pasquinelli filed for bankruptcy your options are limited. Did they present bonds for the issues listed?
