House-Approved Stimulus Plan

Illegal Immigrants to Benefit From House-Approved Stimulus Plan

by admin – published on January 30th, 2008WASHINGTON – The $146 billion stimulus package intended to jolt the economy by giving taxpayers rebates up to $1,200 includes cash returns for illegal immigrants who pay taxes.

Under the plan passed by the House, illegal immigrants who qualify as “resident aliens” and earned a minimum of $3,000 would be eligible for rebates of between $300-$600, FOX News has learned.
Only those illegals who have been assigned an Individual Tax Identification Number that allows them to file income taxes would be eligible. Resident aliens are defined as people who spend a “substantial” amount of time in the U.S. and have not been deported.
The provision has irked illegal immigration opponents, who say the assigning of TINs and collection of taxes from illegals sanctions their presence in the country.
Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., told FOX News that the bill will certainly stimulate “more illegal immigration.”

The stimulus plan met with overwhelming bipartisan support Tuesday, passing the House 385-35 with little debate after House leaders and White House negotiators came to agreement last week.

Opponents of the illegal immigrant eligibility provision point out that the House considered the bill under “suspension of the rules.” Suspension provisions allow the House to expedite bills and don’t open them up to the usual amendment process.
The plan, which would send at least some rebate to anyone with at least $3,000 in income- with more going to families with children and less going to wealthier taxpayers – faces an uncertain future in the Senate.

Senate Democrats and some Republicans support a larger package that adds billions of dollars for senior citizens and the unemployed, and reduces the rebate for individuals to $500 and $1,000 for couples.

The Senate version written by Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus would deliver checks even to the richest taxpayers, who are disqualified under the House-passed measure.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid blasted the proposal to send rebates to those with higher incomes, saying it “causes me to want to gag.” The feeling is widespread among Democrats, he added, saying the “the gag reflex is coming upon everybody”

One response to “House-Approved Stimulus Plan”

  1. Phillip Cleary says :

If you look up the term “Rebate” you will find-“A partial refund following a purchase”. In order to “Rebate” a portion of your income taxes you would first have to “Pay” into that tax.

I think this is the fundamental flaw in this legislation. This is election year pandering by both parties’ Republican and Democrat (one way to observe just how corrupted our Government is, they both hop on the run away train). The fact is that this will have little or no effect on the economy. If you want to stimulate the economy stop taxing the country into a recession. The more money a person or business keeps the more they have to spend and invest. Business stimulate the economy by growing and employing more people, with the dollars decrease n value compared to other currency this means that other countries will purchase more of our goods. When a person or family has more money they use it to improve their quality of life by buying Homes, cars, clothing etc. This is how you grow the economy. Not wholesale give aways’ to people who have paid no income taxes.

I want to ask anyone who reads this, one question. How much did you pay in income taxes last year? The chances are you have no idea all! You know is how much your “return” was. That is amazing, you don’t know how much of Your money our government wasted but you know how much over and beyond what you were suppose to pay that they took from you, without interest. If a merchant were to charge you $10.00 for an item and instead took $15.00 wouldn’t you want your $5.00 back before you left the store, I would. I think we should pay our taxes all at once on or before April 15 of each year. If this were the case you would hear such an uproar that Government spending and the IRS would be eliminated as fast as this farce legislation seems to be moving.

The fact that people who have paid no income taxes would get a “rebate” is insane! We received a “rebate” not too long ago from the Federal Government. When this initially happened it was to be only for those who paid Income Taxes. When it was revealed that those who didn’t wouldn’t get a rebate there was an outcry from the likes of Jessie Jackson about how this was another scheme to keep poor people down. Of course our government in all its infinite wisdom decided that everyone should get them. Guess who pays for these “rebates”? One clue, it isn’t those who don’t pay income taxes! Screwed again, and I didn’t even bring the KY to the party!
